Book Outline
Bankrupt
(Largely based on fact)

Andrew Denbury is suddenly called in by his bank and told to repay his company overdraft within twenty-four hours.  The bank has a receiver, Martin Prisk, ready to put in straight away.  Shell-shocked, he asks his estranged wife Angela to help his save their house by persuading her father Geoffrey Smithson to provide a short-term loan.

However Smithson hates Andrew, who left his firm to start his own business, and will do no more than help Angela to keep the house. Only Andrew’s secretary, Samantha, is sympathetic and helpful.

Andrew tries to fight the bank through his main supplier.  Charles Bonetti of British Gears wants to be helpful but the bank has already bounced a number of cheques and informed Andrew’s clients that a receiver is in place and the company’s assets have been sold to an unknown buyer.  Andrew’s reputation is in tatters and no-one no hyphen two words will deal with him.

Peter Cruikshank, owner of Andrew’s leased factory has a personal guarantee from him, which he says he will now call in.  He wants to put a charge on Andrew’s house.  However Smithson buys him out.  Cruikshank is furious and says he will make Andrew bankrupt and pursue him for everything he has.

Samantha has been given a job by Prisk and keeps Andrew informed on what is going on at the factory.  Determined to resist Cruikshank, Andrew goes abroad but keeps in touch with her.

Gradually they uncover the conspiracy that has robbed Andrew of his business.  The conspirators say they will fight him and believe that he does not have the resources or the courage to succeed.  However Andrew has an ace up his sleeve, which sees him and Samantha win the day.
